Who We Are

Alice Ammerman, DrPH, RD is an Associate Professor in the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Nutrition, Schools of Public Health and Medicine with 15 years of experience conducting nutrition related research in minority and low wealth populations in community health centers, health departments, and churches. Dr. Ammerman served as Principal Investigator for the NAP SACC pilot study and continues to be a part of the NAP SACC investigative team.

 

Sarah Ball, MPH, RD currently serves as the Project Director for all NAP SACC projects coordinating subject recruitment, data collection, and supervision of the Research Assistants. Her expertise and interest is in child nutrition and as a mother to a toddler in child care, her input is valuable to the project.

 

Sara Benjamin, PhD, MPH has a Master’s degree in public health and a doctoral degree in Nutrition from the Department of Nutrition at UNC-CH. She worked previously as an early childhood nutritionist with the Head Start Program and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). Sara served as the Project Manager for the NAP SACC pilot study and continues to be part of the NAP SACC investigative team.

 

Janice Dodds, EdD, RD is a Professor in the UNC-Chapel Hill Department of Nutrition, Schools of Public Health and Medicine and the Department of Maternal and Child Health in the School of Public Health. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the National Training Institute for Child Care Health Consultants. Dr. Dodds coordinated the Advisory Group for the pilot intervention and assisted with the development of NAP SACC support materials.

 

Christina McWilliams, MPH has a master’s in Public Health with a background and interest in exercise science and physical activity promotion, especially in children. She currently serves as the Program Coordinator for one of the newest NAP SACC projects and oversees training of all field staff.

 

Janice Sommers, MPH is a Project Director at the UNC-CHCenter for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. She played an integral part in the development of the NAP SACC project, and significantly contributed to the development and management of the NAP SACC pilot intervention.

 

Dianne Ward, EdD is a Professor in the Department of Nutrition and has over 30 years of experience in research studies and program development in the area of overweight prevention and physical activity promotion with children and youth. She played a vital role in the NAP SACC pilot intervention. Dr. Ward serves as the Principal Investigator for the subsequent phases of the NAP SACC project.
